Thought is the outcome of human contemplation and intellectual engagement, shaped by two fundamental elements: the subject of reflection and the foundational reference that forms the basis of understanding. In the context of Islamic thought, the Holy Quran serves as the ultimate foundation, while Hadith provides its interpretation. Thus, the thoughts of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) are the essence of Islamic thought.
Allama Muhammad Iqbal, a prominent philosopher and poet, has profoundly articulated Islamic thought through his works. His philosophical and poetic expressions not only reflect a deep understanding of Islamic teachings but also provide a framework for intellectual and spiritual revival. Iqbal emphasized the dynamic and evolving nature of thought in light of Quranic guidance, advocating for self-discovery, spiritual elevation, and intellectual empowerment. His concept of "Khudi" (selfhood) encourages individuals to recognize their potential through faith, knowledge, and action, ultimately contributing to the development of a progressive Islamic society. This article explores the Islamic thoughts of Allama Iqbal, highlighting his interpretation of Quranic philosophy, the significance of independent reasoning (Ijtihad), and his call for a renewed Islamic consciousness. By analyzing his works, this study aims to demonstrate how Iqbal’s thoughts align with the core principles of Islam while offering a visionary approach to contemporary challenges. His ideas continue to inspire intellectual discourse, shaping modern Islamic thought and guiding future generations toward a balanced synthesis of tradition and progress.
